Yesterday, in the surgical ward of Xiangya Third Hospital, Liu Weijie lay on the bed, his head and body wrapped in bandages, with tubes inserted in his right arm and chest.

"You shouldn't cut in line, right?" Liu Weijie, a 19-year-old college student, and his mother were waiting in line at the hospital to see a doctor when they saw a man cutting in line, so they spoke up to stop him.

The man muttered a few words, gave Liu Weijie a dirty look, and then turned around and left.

More than 20 minutes later, as Liu Weijie and his mother were leaving the hospital, they had just walked less than 30 meters when five gamblers attempted to sneak through a sewer to Macau. Suddenly, Liu Weijie felt an intense pain in his back. He turned around and saw the man who had cut in line holding a kitchen knife aimed at him and his mother...

A simple "don't cut in line" brought about a calamity.

Yesterday morning, in the surgical ward of Xiangya Third Hospital, Liu Weijie lay on the bed, his head and body wrapped in bandages, with tubes inserted in his right arm and chest. Bloodstains were still visible on his clothes.

"He was slashed five times," said Ms. Tan, Liu Weijie's mother, sobbing. Her son was seriously injured at the time, covered in blood, and he hasn't fully recovered yet. "He had nightmares all night last night, I think he was scared."

Recalling the situation, Ms. Tan was still trembling with fear: her son returned home from school over the weekend. On the morning of May 21, Liu Weijie felt unwell, so Ms. Tan took him to Xiangya Third Hospital for treatment. There was a long queue at the registration window, and just as it was almost their turn, a young man in his twenties pushed his way to the front of the line, acting as if no one else mattered.

Liu Weijie saw this and said to the young man, "Please don't cut in line, okay?" The young man said something they couldn't understand and continued to stand where he was.

At that point, Ms. Tan added, "Look, everyone is queuing, we're all here to see the doctor..." There was some commotion around them, with some people quietly agreeing, "Why cut in line?" The young man glared at Liu Weijie and Ms. Tan before walking away.

After the physical examination, the mother and son prepared to leave the hospital. Ms. Tan recalled that as they exited the hospital, she also saw the man who had cut in line. "I thought he was waiting for someone, so I didn't pay much attention."

"About 30 meters after turning right out of the hospital gate, suddenly two people ran up from behind, each wielding a kitchen knife and slashing at us." Ms. Tan recalled that the attacker was the same man who had cut in line earlier, and he had brought another man of similar age.

Liu Weijie was slashed in the back. He raised his left hand to protect his mother, grabbed her with his right hand, and ran toward the hospital, shouting, "Mom, run! Run!"

Seeing this, the two men fled, and doctors, nurses, and bystanders quickly gathered around. Liu Weijie was rushed into the emergency room, and someone told Ms. Tan to call the police immediately.

"Maybe I'll have to take a temporary leave from school, it's really heartbreaking."

"I just thought it was wrong. Everyone else was queuing, why can't you? Public order needs to be maintained by everyone together." Lying on the hospital bed, Liu Weijie's eyes became red as he spoke. He couldn't understand why simply stopping someone from cutting in line, without any verbal or physical conflict, would lead to such an outcome?

Upon examination, Liu Weijie had been slashed five times and received 13 stitches on his head. "The doctor said it will take a long time to recover, and I may need to take a temporary leave from school, it's really disheartening." Liu Weijie's aunt said that Liu Weijie is a first-year student at Nanhua University in Hengyang, and has always been a well-behaved child since he was young, with excellent grades, kindness, and a strong sense of justice. "Whenever he sees something unfair, he always steps forward to say something and intervene."

"After this incident, the usually lively Liu Weijie suddenly became very quiet," Liu Weijie's aunt worried that this event might have a negative psychological impact on him. "It's too violent, too brutal. In the future, who will dare to shout 'no' to those who cut in line?"

Ms. Tan recalled that the assailant was less than 1.7 meters tall, with a square face, around twenty years old, and wearing a white checkered shirt when he fled. Currently, the Yinpengling police station has intervened in the investigation. It is reported that the police have already preliminarily obtained the personal information of the suspect and are conducting further investigations.

Make following public order a habit

Fang Xinxin (Member of the Chinese Sociological Society): First, this is a matter of perception. Everyone is queuing, why can't you follow public order and avoid cutting in line?

We seem to lack this kind of education from a young age, naturally making it difficult to form a good atmosphere and environment. Respecting others and respecting public order cannot simply be attributed to quality issues; it has already gone beyond that scope.

If one day everyone regards queuing in order as a natural thing, like eating when hungry or drinking when thirsty, then tragedies like this wouldn't happen around us.

In terms of managing and maintaining public order, we still need to make some efforts.

Xiao Hanshi (Professor of Educational Psychology at Hunan Normal University): Some people are born with fiery tempers and poor psychological adjustment abilities. Once things don't go their way, they fall into a terrifying state of "emotion." If this state isn't controlled, they may resort to extreme actions, even harming others.

How can we prevent this? When encountering a situation, take a deep breath, pause for 30 seconds, calm yourself down, carefully consider the consequences. What price will I pay if I act impulsively?

In this incident, the male youth who attacked others did not do so on the spot or immediately. He should have foreseen the consequences. The tragedy still occurred, possibly due to his differing perceptions and extremely radical personality.
