Unwilling to Have Sexual Relations Before Marriage, Woman Suffers Acid Attack by Boyfriend

Haikou Evening News reported on January 20 that according to the East Asia Economic and Trade News, after graduating from technical school, young woman Xiao Wei (a pseudonym) was assigned to work in Tonghua City. She met local youth Zhai Ligang through an introduction. Unexpectedly, this hasty relationship turned into her nightmare—just because she refused to have sexual relations before their wedding, she suffered a severe acid attack from him, causing great physical and mental harm.
For five years, with her appearance severely disfigured, Xiao Wei has been crying alone in a small room every day, never once looking at herself in a mirror, leading a life filled with unbearable pain. However, the strong-hearted Xiao Wei did not give up; she took legal action to protect her legitimate rights and interests.
On the morning of the 17th, accompanied by her mother, a young woman wearing a blue headscarf came tearfully to our newspaper office. We learned that the young woman's name was Xiao Wei, aged 30, and she was an employee of Tonghua Steel Group Corporation Limited. Her mother's name was Wang Guiqin, aged 55, residing in Halahai Town, Nongan County. Even before speaking, Xiao Wei was already sobbing uncontrollably.
A. Seeds of Nightmare: A Rash Marriage Registration for Housing Allocation
Although they had obtained a marriage certificate, neither party held a wedding ceremony nor lived together.
Xiao Wei introduced that her family lived in Halahai Town, Nongan County. In 1994, after graduating from junior high school, she was admitted to Tonggang Technical School with excellent results. After graduating from technical school in 1997, Xiao Wei stayed in Tonghua Steel Group Corporation Limited to work. In 2001, she was transferred to the office of the First Steel Plant of the Group as a typist.
In August 1999, at the age of 23, Xiao Wei met Zhai Ligang, an employee of the High Line Factory of Tonghua Steel Group Corporation Limited, through an introduction and established a romantic relationship. In October of the same year, after just two months of dating, Zhai Ligang proposed obtaining a marriage certificate to be eligible for housing allocation from his unit. Under repeated persuasion from Zhai and his family, Xiao Wei registered for marriage with Zhai Ligang. Although they had obtained a marriage certificate, neither party held a wedding ceremony nor lived together.
B. Beginning of the Nightmare: Determined to Divorce Amidst Despair
The male party and his family repeatedly approached the matchmaker or the female party and her relatives themselves, hoping to reconcile but were rejected.
On July 3, 2000, Xiao Wei submitted a civil complaint to the Erdaojiang District People's Court of Tonghua City, requesting to dissolve her marital relationship with Zhai Ligang. Thereafter, Zhai Ligang and his family frequently sought out the matchmaker or personally approached Xiao Wei and her relatives, hoping that Xiao Wei would withdraw the lawsuit and reconcile with Zhai Ligang. However, Xiao Wei firmly rejected their requests. On July 7, at the Civil Affairs Bureau of Erdaojiang District, Tonghua City, Xiao Wei obtained a divorce certificate.
After dissolving her marriage with Zhai Ligang, Xiao Wei felt a sense of relief. However, the naive Xiao Wei did not know that an unexpected disaster was quietly approaching her.
A Cup of Sulfuric Acid Poured Over Her Head
Her face, hands, and body immediately felt like they were on fire, her clothes were burned, and her gloves were reduced to shreds.
At 17:40 on December 7, 2001, after finishing work, Xiao Wei went home as usual (at this time, she had moved out of her aunt's house and rented another place). When she was about 300 meters away from her rental place (in front of Building 208 of the Tonggang residential area), she suddenly heard someone calling her name behind her. She turned around and saw her ex-husband Zhai Ligang rushing toward her, quickly pouring a cup of sulfuric acid over her head. Xiao Wei instantly felt a burning sensation on her face, hands, and body, with unbearable pain. Her clothes were burned, and her gloves were reduced to shreds. After committing the crime, Zhai Ligang threw the cup on the ground and fled hastily.
After being burned by sulfuric acid, Xiao Wei, enduring excruciating pain, ran towards a nearby residential building, knocking on doors from the 1st floor to the 5th floor for help. At this point, she could barely hold on, collapsing in the hallway, but she stubbornly crawled from the 5th floor to the 4th floor. Just as she was losing hope, the door of a resident on the 4th floor opened, and a woman helped Xiao Wei into the house and then called "110" to report the incident. Xiao Wei's aunt arrived upon hearing the news and sent Xiao Wei to the Tonghua Steel Group Corporation Limited Employee Hospital for emergency treatment.
C. Traces of the Nightmare
Facial scars exceeding 10%, identified as Grade VI disability
After Xiao Wei was burned, the Tonghua police swiftly arrived at the scene, and officers from the Shanxia Police Station of the Erdajiang District Public Security Bureau also rushed to the site. After extracting evidence such as remnants of gloves left at the scene, the police found two glass bottles containing sulfuric acid at Zhai Ligang's home. One bottle contained 4.5 kilograms of sulfuric acid with a concentration of 95%, and the other contained 0.5 kilograms with a concentration of 98%.
Ten days after being hospitalized at the Tonggang Employee Hospital, Xiao Wei was transferred to the Changchun Burn Hospital for treatment. She later sought medical help at several hospitals within the province. In February 2004, she went to the Beijing Plastic Surgery Hospital for treatment.
The medical records from the Changchun Burn Hospital stated the following: sulfuric acid burns covering the head, face, both forearms, and left hand, with a burn area of 45%. On January 4, 2003, the Changchun Judicial Identification Center issued the "Changchun Judicial Identification Center Forensic Medical Identification Book." The reporter noticed the following description: an 18 cm long and 2.5 cm to 4.0 cm wide skin scar on the forehead, with all left eyebrows lost due to scarring, upper eyelid contracted due to scarring, and incomplete eye closure. The middle part of the right eyebrow is missing due to scarring. There is a 12 cm x 4 cm scar on the left temple with hair loss. There is a 2.5 cm x 0.2 cm scar on the left cheek and a 2.0 cm linear scar below the left ear. There is a 9.0 cm x 3.5 cm scar on the backside of the left wrist, with slight restriction of wrist joint movement. There are multiple spot-like scars on the left wrist, left hand third, fourth, fifth fingers, and right leg.
Analysis Explanation: Based on the medical record, it can be confirmed that there are indeed head, face, and hand burns present; there is a large area of scarring on the forehead, with all left eyebrows lost due to scarring, and the left eyelid is everted due to scarring, resulting in incomplete left eye closure. The facial scar area exceeds 10% of the face. According to Article 2, 6, and 7 of the "Trial Standard for Identifying Disability Degree Caused by Human Injury of Jilin Provincial Higher People's Court," the degree of disability conforms to Grade VI. Conclusion: Xiao Wei belongs to Grade VI disability.
D. Pain of the Nightmare
Five years without looking at photos or mirrors
Medical expenses amounting to more than 80,000 yuan have plunged the family into heavy debt. The once cheerful Xiao Wei now hides at home and does not go out.
During the interview with the reporter, Xiao Wei's mother took out several photos of her daughter before she was disfigured by sulfuric acid. The photos showed a lively and beautiful Xiao Wei. Although not exceptionally pretty, she was still charming. Seeing her mother take out these photos, Xiao Wei couldn't help but burst into tears again. She said, "Since the incident happened, I have never dared to look at these photos, let alone look in the mirror. The heartless Zhai Ligang destroyed me like this, truly devoid of any humanity. Who can restore my lost beauty?"
According to Xiao Wei's mother, to treat her daughter, they spent more than 80,000 yuan borrowed from others, plunging the family into heavy debt.
Currently, Xiao Wei stays hidden at home all day, unwilling to go out or meet friends and colleagues. The once cheerful Xiao Wei used to laugh every day,热情待人乐于助人。现在遭受硫酸泼头后容貌丑陋，一切美好的愿望全都化为泡影，整天把自己关在屋子里默默地流泪，也不愿意说话。谈到小薇当时被硫酸烧成啥样时，其母从随身携带的一个包中拿出几张照片。照片上的小薇惨不忍睹，真是令人触目惊心。

小薇现暂住在农安的母亲家中，她的精神有些恍惚，整天面对墙壁不肯见人，5年来不敢照镜子，有时还寻死。再有几天就过年了，同村的姑娘都忙着置办新衣和头饰，可她却只能忍受着毁容带来的精神折磨。
由于头皮的毛囊被硫酸烧损，小薇经常掉头发，头皮也麻木得没有任何知觉。为了保持血液循环，每天晚上睡觉前，母亲都会用拳头捶打其头顶，一次得连续捶打上千下。
E罪恶的代价

翟立刚采用报复手段使用硫酸将小薇毁容后，仿佛一下子从地球上消失了，虽然网上通缉，但一直没有其落脚的准确线索。就这样，一晃两年快过去了。
2003年11月，通化警方发现，翟立刚的家人经常与一个温州的电话号码联系。最终，民警做通了翟立刚哥哥的思想工作，得知翟立刚现已潜逃到了浙江省苍南县。于是，民警们迅速出击，将翟立刚抓获归案。
2004年2月23日，二道江区人民检察院以涉嫌故意伤害罪，向通化市二道江区人民法院提起公诉。
2004年4月，通化市二道江区人民法院依法审理此案后作出一审判决：判处翟立刚有期徒刑11年。赔偿被害人小薇伤残补助费130889.60元的80%。该判决下达后，翟立刚不服，上诉到通化市中级人民法院。
2004年11月，翟的上诉被驳回，维持原判。现翟立刚在梅河口一监狱内服刑。
目前，通化市二道江区人民法院下达了《协助执行通知书》，将翟立刚位于通钢住宅楼109栋3单元4楼的楼房依法封存保全。通化市二道江区人大也正在密切关注此案。
噩梦的抗争 人生有几个20多岁？
盼望着早日过上正常的生活，与痛苦早日隔绝
在记者采访时，小薇的母亲用颤抖的手将几张稿纸递上。这是小薇在极度痛苦中写下的一篇题为《盼望》的文章。
小薇在文中写道：人生如梦，人生如歌,浙江汽油价格，我本来就很渺小，我好比是无名的小草，在风雨中坚强地活着。我不求荣华富贵，不求高官厚禄，却被生活中的一段恋爱给毁了。
生活对我来说本来是美好的，我和别的女孩子一样，有梦想、有希望、有对生活的热爱。就因为认识了翟立刚，一切都变了。在和他相处的日子里，我的忍耐、期待都一次次成为泡影。分手之后，他竟用最狠毒的手段，将我从美丽的天堂推入到人间地狱……我在短短的几天内，竟变成了这个样子，我痛不欲生。这还不算，下次手术还需要更多的费用和更痛苦的煎熬。
面对生活，我还能站起来吗？我告诉记者要坚强，我还有很多的事情没有做，还有很多人没有感谢，还有很多人间动人的故事没有感受到——我每天晚上睡觉时眼睛闭不上，两年来我的左眼总是流脓水，耳朵天天嗡嗡响，烧伤的脸总能挤出白脓来，我不知道这样能否治好。
20多岁对谁来说都是最美好的时光，也是最宝贵最靓丽的，人生能有几个20岁？我的青春是这样的痛，认识他是一种痛，没有理解、没有安慰，当初跟他办结婚手续时，我的内心是多么的矛盾，而他却如此无情无义。当他将硫酸向我当头泼下时，我的神经完全麻木了，整个身体没有了知觉，就像一个大板子。到达医院后，头发被剪掉了，头发掉到地上，地面都烧白了，连护士的手都烧伤了。
这件事对我全家的伤害是无法用语言来形容的，我多想为家做点贡献，让我的父母快乐，而今的我却只能以泪洗面，我盼望着早日过上正常的生活，与痛苦早日隔绝。(李想)
