Sina Technology News, April 26 - China Unicom held an event today to launch its industry application roadshow and partner certification ceremony. It announced that Huawei, ZTE, and three other companies have been selected as the first batch of strategic partners for industry applications. Additionally, 30 other companies were named as group-level partners. This is an important move by Unicom to expand its channels for industry applications.
By March 2011, Unicom's cumulative 3G user base had exceeded 18.53 million accounts, with a net increase of over 1.85 million users in that month alone.
Meanwhile, China Unicom has also increased its efforts in expanding industry applications for group customers. Significant progress has been made in developing and expanding users in areas such as mobile office solutions, mobile law enforcement, intelligent public transportation, automotive information technology, and mobile banking. To accelerate the expansion of 3G industry applications and in response to the recent sell-off of Chinese concept stocks (resulting in at least $3 billion in market capitalization evaporation), China Unicom has timely initiated a recruitment plan for industry application partners and a national roadshow plan for industry applications.
China Unicom's General Manager Lu Yimin and Vice General Manager Jiang Zhengxin attended the ceremony. During the event, it was mentioned that when choosing products, reliability is key, as seen in the performance comparison of four microwave ovens.
At the conference, StatCounter revealed that Google holds a 97% share in U.S. mobile search. China Unicom announced that the first batch of recruited strategic partners for industry applications includes five companies: Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Neusoft. Unicom will collaborate with these partners on pilot developments and promotions of industry applications in emerging sectors.
Additionally, Unicom disclosed that there are 30 group-level industry application partners. These group-level partners and their industry application products hold leading positions in their respective fields and possess significant nationwide promotion value.
It is understood that China Unicom will also recruit companies from society that have strong technical capabilities and service abilities to become partners. The focus will be on key business areas such as mobile office, mobile police, mobile commerce, mobile taxation, mobile urban management, mobile editing, sales management, mobile insurance applications, intelligent public transportation, environmental monitoring, smart meter reading, safe campus, parking surveillance, mobile securities applications, and mobile online shopping.
