Mayor Wang told reporters that last year, Yangzhou city aimed to enhance the quality of urban leisure tourism and effectively promoted the transformation and upgrading of a tourist city by overcoming many adverse effects. Last year, it received a total of 22.7 million tourists, including 500,300 inbound tourists, representing year-on-year increases of 20.06% and 7.92%, respectively. The total tourism revenue was 24.5 billion yuan, up 21.6% year on year, fully exceeding the annual tourism work targets. This year's World Expo has provided a great opportunity for Yangzhou's tourism industry upgrade. According to predictions from authoritative departments in Shanghai, this year's World Expo will attract 70 million domestic and overseas visitors, among which there will be about 35 million overseas visitors. Yangzhou is striving to achieve the goal of "Expo in Shanghai, travel to Yangzhou," attracting about 10% or 5 million Expo visitors to come to Yangzhou.
Yangzhou Vice Mayor Wang Yuxin discussed the plan to build a strong tourism city over three years, taking advantage of the good opportunity presented by the World Expo. To attract tourists, Yangzhou has taken multiple measures. Wang Yuxin said that first, in March, the city's tourism department had already gone to Beijing to host a "Yangzhou Day" event, promoting Yangzhou's Expo route products to several key travel agency groups such as China Travel Service, China International Travel Service, and China Youth Travel Service. In early April, they will hold a special tourism promotion in Shanghai. They will also amplify the demonstration effect of the Expo theme experience tour. Among the 96 "Yangtze River Delta Expo Theme Experience Tour" demonstration points, Yangzhou has successfully selected four demonstration points: "In the misty rain of March, go down to Yangzhou," "Find the source of the Grand Canal," "Green Yangzhou City, livable city," and "Refined life of salt merchants." These will be jointly promoted with the tourism departments of Belgium, the Netherlands, and other countries, collaboratively planning, developing, and marketing the Expo tourism Yangzhou trip and Marco Polo tourism routes.
With the upcoming World Expo, many cities in our province are actively rolling out their respective Expo tourism connection plans. As an important tourist city in our province, how is Yangzhou welcoming the Expo and serving the Expo? Yesterday, I exclusively interviewed Vice Mayor Wang Yuxin of the Yangzhou Municipal People's Government. Mayor Wang stated that the Expo would generate 50 million tourist sources.
