This technique is applicable for exterior latex paint construction on outdoor substrates such as cement mortar, asbestos cement board, concrete precast panels, and cast-in-place concrete.
(1) Construction Preparation: Chimney construction, chimney maintenance, chimney dismantling, chimney anti-corrosion desulfurization, steel structure anti-corrosion, exterior wall plastering.
A. Material Preparation:
a. Putty: Ready-made water-resistant putty or mixed with white cement, synthetic resin emulsion, etc.
b. Primer: Water-based or solvent-based coatings that are compatible with the topcoat.
c. Topcoat: Latex paint should comply with the provisions of GB/T 9755 "Synthetic Resin Emulsion Exterior Wall Coating" standard.
B. Tools and Supplies Preparation:
Putty knife, wire brush, putty scraper or spatula, putty tray, sandpaper, roller brush, paintbrush, hand-held electric mixer, filter screen, plastic bucket, leveling board, steel tape measure, chalk line bag, transparent tape, protective shield, covering paper, plastic safety goggles, mask, gloves, work clothes, rubber shoes.
C. Technical Preparation:
a. Base Inspection and Acceptance: The base should be flat, clean, free of loose sand, and no shell lifting. The moisture content of the concrete and plaster surface layer should be below 10%, pH value less than 9. Usually, in good ventilation conditions, new plastered bases should dry for 10 days in summer and 20 days in winter. Bases not inspected and qualified shall not be constructed.
b. Sample: When the construction area is large, a sample should be made according to the design requirements, recognized by the design and construction units, and used as the acceptance basis.
c. Site: The distance between the scaffold and the wall should be appropriate, and the scaffold boards must have sufficient length, with no fewer than three support points. Cover the outer windows to avoid contamination during painting.
d. Personnel: The construction team should have a technical supervisor, and the main operators must undergo technical training for this process, and only those who pass can start work. Auxiliary workers should be guided by designated personnel.
(2) Construction Operation Method:
A. Base Treatment: First, remove dust and other attachments from the base surface. Larger depressions should be leveled with polymer cement mortar. After drying, smaller holes and cracks should be repaired with cement latex putty. If there is alkali efflorescence, wash it with zinc sulfate solution or dilute hydrochloric acid solution, and clean oil stains with detergent, finally rinse with clean water.
B. Different situations of existing coatings on the base should be handled accordingly: Loose, peeling, brittle old coatings should be removed; firmly adhered old coatings should be roughened with sandpaper; non-waterproof coatings should be completely removed.
C. Applying Primer (except for wooden and painted surfaces): If the wall is relatively loose and highly absorbent, after cleaning, use a roller to evenly apply one to two coats of diluted glue water (acrylic emulsion or water-soluble building glue water diluted 3-5 times), without missing any areas or applying too much which could cause flow or accumulation.
D. Local Putty Application: After the base primer dries, use putty to fill uneven areas, sand smooth after drying. Stir the ready-made putty before use, add an appropriate amount of water if it's too thick.
E. Full Surface Putty Application: Place the putty on the tray, and use a spatula or rubber scraper for application, from top to bottom. Depending on the base condition and decoration requirements, apply 2-3 layers of putty, each layer should not be too thick. After drying, promptly sand with sandpaper, avoiding wave-like patterns or leaving sanding marks. Sweep away dust after sanding.
F. Applying Primer: Stir the primer evenly, thin it according to the product manual if necessary. Use a roller or brush to apply evenly once, pay attention not to miss any areas or apply too thickly. After the primer dries, locally reapply putty if necessary, sand smooth after drying.
G. Applying Topcoat: Dilute the topcoat according to the product manual and stir evenly. If the wall needs color separation, first snap out the color separation line with a chalk line or ink line, leave 1-2cm margin at the color intersection when brushing. One person brushes evenly with a roller, another immediately levels the brush marks and splashes with a brush. Prevent showing the base and sagging. Each brushing face should start from the edge to the other side and complete in one go to avoid joint marks. After the first coat dries, apply the second coat. Generally, apply 2-3 coats depending on different conditions.
(3) Precautions:
A. Check the label before using the paint, stir thoroughly, and seal tightly after use.
B. The storage and application of the paint should comply with the temperature conditions specified in the product manual, usually above 5℃. If the paint freezes during storage and transportation, place it in a warmer room to thaw naturally, do not heat with fire. Confirm that the paint has not deteriorated after thawing before use.
C. Paint color adjustment is best completed by the manufacturer or distributor to ensure consistent color in the batch. If color adjustment is needed at the construction site, use the color paste provided or specified by the manufacturer, follow usage requirements and ratios, and have a dedicated person for mixing.
D. Pay attention to the finished product protection of the paint project, prevent cross-operation causing artificial pollution. Walls already painted can be gently wiped with a clean damp cloth if contaminated. Re-coat if heavily polluted.
E. Pay attention to weather forecasts before construction, avoid working before rain or snow.
F. Clean and properly store the painting tools after use.
(4) Safety Protection Measures:
A. During construction, operators should ensure adequate sleep to concentrate while working at heights, preventing accidents;
B. Before construction, check whether scaffolding and planks are securely erected, confirm safety before starting operation;
C. Do not wear slippers, smooth-soled shoes, or high heels when working on scaffolds;
D. Strictly prohibit fire and smoking where solvent-based primers, topcoats, and thinners are stored and used;
E. Equip with necessary protective glasses and protective masks;
F. Electrical installations and lighting must comply with electrical safety standards, strictly prohibiting random wiring and connections;
