Introduction: There's a saying: "Actors are madmen, and the audience are fools." However, this saying no longer applies to today's entertainment industry. Acting has spilled over into real life, and actors have become increasingly clever. The audience, on the other hand, sits back smartly eating sunflower seeds while watching the drama unfold. Just look at all those pairs of celebrities who publicly hurl insults at each other like Jay Chou vs Jolin Tsai, Han Han vs Zheng Jun, Charlene Choi vs Zhao Wei, Gong Li vs Zhang Ziyi, Gao Yuanyuan vs Yuan Quan, Li Bingbing vs Fan Bingbing, and the savvy audiences understand it all.
In October 2007, when EMI chairman and producer of new pop queens, Nelson Chen, celebrated the first-week sales of 150,000 copies of Jolin Tsai’s “Agent J” with a lavish victory banquet, Jay Chou, whose album sales had been declining year by year and whose pre-sale figures for his latest album were unknown, couldn't help but criticize EMI for allegedly "buying charts" and "fabricating numbers," angrily accusing Jolin Tsai's album sales of being "watered down."
After more than half a month of verbal sparring between the two Js, recent rumors within the industry suggested that Jay Chou's repeated attacks on Nelson Chen were actually part of a plan to poach Jolin Tsai, whose contract with EMI was set to expire next year, to his own company, J-Way, in order to continue creating the "Double J Legend"! This convoluted situation is probably only clear to the parties involved.
On August 21, 2007, Wong Ka Keung went to a radio station to promote his new album. During the promotion, he revealed that while taking a flight in mainland China, he was rudely stared at by a female passenger wearing sunglasses, who acted very arrogantly, leaving Wong feeling extremely dissatisfied. He assumed she might be some big star. Wong criticized her behavior as impolite, saying, "If you're a superstar, why don't you take a private plane?"
The incident occurred when Wong was seated near the aisle. A woman wearing sunglasses stood next to him, glaring disdainfully at him. He immediately pulled his legs in to let her pass, but the woman continued to glare at him without sitting down. Feeling ignored, Wong picked up a newspaper and pretended not to care. Then the woman's companion asked him to move, so he reluctantly shifted again. Afterward, noticing an empty seat ahead, Wong decided to switch seats. Later, Wong learned that the woman was He Jie, who placed fourth in the 2005 Super Girl competition. He accused her of having character issues, angrily saying, "Do I need to kneel before the champion? Such airs I've never seen! On a plane, we’re all common people. If you're a superstar, then take a private jet!"
Subsequently, He Jie's agent came to her defense, arguing that Wong Ka Keung, as a man, should have helped the standing female passenger. They also questioned Wong's account, pointing out that if He Jie was wearing sunglasses, how could he possibly know her expression? The agent accused Wong of using the incident as a publicity stunt.
Renowned music veteran Ko Yi Min was "blasting off" again, this time directly targeting her "former employer," Hunan TV. With reports of contestants frequently withdrawing from the "Happy Boy" competition, Ko, known for her straightforwardness, finally spoke up, criticizing Hunan TV for "bullying customers because their store is big" and stating, "Yang Erche Namu wants to imitate me? Impossible!"
Ko sarcastically commented: "Yang Erche Namu's big red flower on her head is too vulgar. In terms of professional critique and stage control, she is far inferior to me. As a judge for talent shows, no one in China is more professional than me. Yang Erche Namu trying to imitate me is merely 'copying the form but missing the essence.' But her appearance could easily replace Wu Junru in 'China's Top Matchmaker'!"
