According to measurements by Japanese experts, the natural emission period for formaldehyde is 3-15 years. It is recommended that rooms renovated within the past three years, newly purchased cars, and new furniture all undergo a test. However, hiring professional air quality inspection agencies can be quite expensive, generally costing around 2000 yuan per square meter. If one only needs to understand whether the formaldehyde levels are severely excessive and does not require high precision in the numbers, one could consider using quick formaldehyde detection products.

Currently, most of the rapid formaldehyde detection products on the market are similar, mostly adopting semi-quantitative testing methods —— through color comparison cards, to measure the relative content of indoor formaldehyde. The principle is that formaldehyde in the tested sample reacts with the coloring agent to generate blue-green compounds, which selectively absorb visible light, allowing people to directly read the formaldehyde content from the color comparison card. Director Ma pointed out that since it requires distinguishing colors with the naked eye, "quick formaldehyde testers" can only roughly measure the general content or over-limit multiples of indoor formaldehyde. If one needs clear and detailed data about the indoor formaldehyde content, professional companies should still be hired for the tests.

Before use, the doors and windows of the room to be tested should be closed for one hour; when using, drop all the reagent into the opened formaldehyde absorption bottle, and make sure to use a coarse-mouthed bottle as the absorption bottle for a more complete reaction. Shake the bottle several times to dissolve the solution, then open the cap and place it in the room to be tested, ideally at a height of 0.8 to 1.5 meters from the ground, with a testing time of two hours being optimal. The room temperature should be kept around 20℃ as much as possible, as too high or too low temperatures will affect the readings. If testing furniture, it's best to place the reagents inside the furniture.
