Our city of Yancheng is a city named after salt. Since ancient times, salt culture has always been the main body and essence of our Yancheng culture. Last year, under the suggestion of members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the construction of the China Marine Salt Museum officially began, giving us an ideal platform to comprehensively display Yancheng's salt culture. More than 2000 years of marine salt industry development has left a rich historical accumulation for Yancheng, imprinting a heavy historical mark. Building a marine salt history museum has long been the cherished wish and pursuit of more than eight million people in Yanfu, and has also become the goal for which all sectors of our Yancheng are striving.

For a region, for a nation, whether it has its own unique cultural character, its own status in the history of culture, and whether it can have a certain prominent status, is crucial for enhancing the national self-confidence of this nation or the people of this region. And for our Yanfu people, the most important and dominant traditional culture on this land is marine salt culture, which is exactly the cultural brand we want to establish.

On August 10, 2007, with the rumbling sound of bulldozers by the Chuang River, the China Marine Salt Museum, officially approved by the State Council, started construction in our Yancheng, meaning that the long-cherished hope of our Yancheng people has finally come true, which of course cannot be separated from the proposals and strategies of the members of the Yancheng Municipal Committee of the Democratic League.

While actively participating in this work, we can make valuable suggestions for the construction. For example, how to coordinate content and form during the construction, how to conduct good research on cultural relics, how to improve the quality of building this museum, and how to well combine this museum with Yancheng's regional culture.

It is understood that the entire building was designed by Academician Cheng Taining, a famous engineer of our country, with a total investment of about 1 billion RMB and a construction area of nearly 20,000 square meters. After completion, the venue will be divided into four floors, one underground and three above ground. Currently, the first phase of the construction task has been basically completed.

Currently, the brick foundation project has been completed, and the foundation and earthwork projects are underway. The main project will be completed by the end of June 2008, and it will be delivered for use by the end of December.

After completion, the entire venue building complex will resemble a string of crystal-clear white salt crystals scattered along the Chuang River, becoming the first specialized museum in the country reflecting the ancient history and culture of Chinese marine salt, and will also become another beautiful business card showcasing Yancheng's image.
