Southern Daily News (Reporter / Wu Yongkui Correspondent / Liu Guanghong, Lai Pianpian): A law enforcement team supervisor in Dalang Subdistrict of Bao'an District, surnamed Lin, abused his power and accepted 220,000 yuan in bribes from two construction contractors. Under his protection, two buildings without legal construction procedures were erected. Recently, the supervisor was sentenced by the Bao'an Court to three years in prison with a four-year reprieve for the crime of accepting bribes.
Receiving 220,000 yuan in bribes as an umbrella for illegal constructions, a Dalang supervisor was sentenced to three years in prison.
On June 30 this year, Lin Yongwu surrendered himself to the Bao'an District Procuratorate of Shenzhen and returned 200,000 yuan in bribe money. During the trial, Lin Yongwu also refunded the remaining 20,000 yuan in ill-gotten gains.
Since September 2007, Lin Yongwu has been a supervisor at the law enforcement team of Dalang Subdistrict in Bao'an, entrusted with assisting in the investigation and handling of illegal buildings. In November 2007, contractor Huang built a nine-story building in Tanluo Overseas Chinese New Village C Zone of Tongsheng Community in Dalang Subdistrict, Bao'an District. Since there were no legal construction procedures, Huang sought help from Chen (handled separately). Chen found Lin Yongwu, who agreed to help, and they agreed that Huang would pay 100,000 yuan as a "favor fee" to Lin Yongwu. Later, because the owner added two more floors to the illegal building, increasing it from nine to eleven floors, both parties agreed to pay Lin Yongwu an additional 20,000 yuan. Chen then handed over 120,000 yuan in cash from Huang to Lin Yongwu five times at his home or in his car according to the progress of the project, which Lin Yongwu immediately accepted.
The Bao'an court ruled that defendant Lin Yongwu, as a government official, used his position to illegally accept others' property and seek benefits for others, constituting the crime of accepting bribes. Considering that Lin Yongwu voluntarily surrendered after the incident and truthfully confessed his crimes, and had already returned all the illicit funds after the case broke out, the court decided to reduce his punishment accordingly and made the above ruling.
With Lin Yongwu's help, Huang successfully completed the construction of the building. In the same year in November, contractor Yu built a nine-story building in Zhongbao Rich New Village in Tanluo Community, Dalang Subdistrict. Due to lack of legal construction procedures, Yu sought help from Chen. Lin Yongwu received 100,000 yuan in the same manner, and Yu also successfully completed the construction of the building.
