"Small myopia" dispatch of Tai'an from our newspaper (reporter Xuan Zhenliang): Since the term began, the number of "small myopia" cases at the hospital has increased, and their average age has dropped. Playing computer games for long periods and incorrect reading postures are being cited as reasons.
"The number of children with eye problems has been particularly high recently. We are so busy that we don't even have time to drink water," says Dr. Du Yunhong from the ophthalmology department of Tai'an Downtown Hospital in an interview with the reporter.
Many students developed myopia during the summer vacation. September 6 was the first Saturday of the school term in Tai'an city. On that day alone, Dr. Du Yunhong treated over 40 "small myopia" cases, accounting for about one-third of the total patients seen that day. Normally, the number of patients does not exceed 15 to 20 people per day. The average age of these patients is around 10 years old.
Dr. Du Yunhong told the reporter that besides congenital reasons, the main causes of myopia among students are prolonged use of computers, video games, and improper reading postures. Once diagnosed with myopia, timely visits to regular medical institutions for pupil dilation medication and optometry assessments should be undertaken, and appropriate glasses should be worn to prevent further deterioration of vision and provide seasonal control.
