Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, May 12th - According to a report from Radio Television Hong Kong on the evening of May 12th, the Hong Kong Red Cross donated 500,000 RMB to the earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan through the General Administration of the Chinese Red Cross on the evening of May 12th to assist in disaster relief efforts.
A spokesperson for the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government stated on the evening of May 12th that after the earthquake in Sichuan, the immigration department had received 14 cases of Hong Kong residents seeking help and 25 related inquiries, mainly involving family members in Hong Kong being unable to contact the parties concerned.
The spokesperson indicated that the immigration department would maintain close contact with relevant authorities on the mainland through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's office in Beijing, understand the situation, and provide all feasible assistance to Hong Kong residents in need.
