The Olympic torch for the Beijing Olympics arrived in Hong Kong, China on the afternoon of April 30th. Over 400 guests attended the welcoming ceremony held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center.
Yang Shu'an, Executive Vice President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), Tang Yingnian, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, and Ho Chun-ting, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, along with several torchbearers from various sectors were present at the ceremony.
Yang Shu'an delivered a speech during the ceremony stating that after more than 30 days of relay, the Olympic flame had arrived in Hong Kong, returning to the embrace of the motherland. He expressed his hope to bring the Olympic spirit of peace, friendship, and progress to Hong Kong, sharing the joy and glory of the Olympics with its citizens.
