The Sichuan Aba 3.16 incident has been basically quelled. The incident of beating, smashing, looting and arson by a very small number of lawless elements which happened on March 16 in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province has now been largely brought under control. On March 22, I saw in the main areas and roads of Aba county town that more than half of the shops along the streets which were tightly closed several days ago have resumed business, and social order is gradually returning to normal.
On March 16, a handful of lawless elements in Aba county carried out beatings, smashing, looting and arson in the county town and some towns, causing heavy property losses to the local people. After the incident occurred, the local government and relevant departments quickly took measures to deal with it according to law, and the situation has now been largely brought under control.
On March 22, I saw in Aba county that the main streets in the urban area are now unobstructed, with significantly more pedestrians than in the previous few days, and cars and motorcycles driving past from time to time, while tricycle drivers pedal their vehicles in search of customers.
In Chata Street, which was the most severely damaged in the beating, smashing, looting and arson incident, the street surface has now been cleaned up, and more than half of the shops along the street have reopened for business. In the "Good Good Cosmetics Store"...
