Expensive DSLR cameras have always been the ideal target for thieves. Is it really safe to hang your camera around your neck when you're out? The BBC in the UK aired an episode of "The Real Hustle" on September 26, 2011, Season 10 Episode 4, which showed how a group of thieves stole a lens from a camera hanging around a photographer's neck.
In this video, the photographer, who is either asking for or giving directions, has their view blocked by a map held up in front of them, allowing one member of the theft team to quietly unscrew the DSLR lens and slip it into their pocket. To be honest, completing this action without being noticed isn't particularly easy.
Additionally, everyone should be reminded that at events or crowded places, if you hang your camera over your shoulder, it’s best not to let it dangle behind you, as it can easily allow thieves to steal your lens.
