Ms. Li told the reporter that she is 38 years old and is from Hunan Province. She came to Hainan to work in 1994 and developed feelings for a local man. Due to family opposition, they did not get married, but they had a daughter named Xiaoyu (a pseudonym) in April 1995.

"Later, due to differences in feelings, we separated, and Xiaoyu has been living with me ever since." Ms. Li said that when Xiaoyu was young, she was very obedient.
