Fei Zhenxiang was born into a family of Peking opera artists. He studied his craft under teachers from various schools: Zhang Siquan, Qian Rongshun, Wu Rongxi, and Liu Fusheng.
He learned the famous Gai school plays from his teacher Zhang Shanlin, the eldest grandson of the renowned Peking Opera performer Gai Jiaotian. In 2000, he studied under the famous Peking Opera masters Li Yuanchun and Li Guang, as well as Li Shu, who had successfully mastered the Yu (Shuyan) and Yang (Baosen) schools of performance.
