The much-publicized article of "female section-level cadres' postponed retirement" finally failed to enter the legislative process of the People's Congress. Yesterday, the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress solicited opinions on the revised draft of the Measures for the Implementation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests. In the revised draft, the article of "appropriately extending the working years of female section-level or above leading cadres and female senior intellectuals to achieve gender equality" was deleted.

Equal support and opposition

According to the current national regulations, female cadres and workers below the department level all retire 5 years earlier than their male counterparts at the same level. That is, female cadres retire at the age of 55, female workers at the age of 50, while males retire at the age of 60 and 55 respectively. Last year, at the end of the year, when the Beijing Legal Affairs Office solicited public opinions on this Method, it stipulated in Article 23 that men and women should retire at the same age.
