An official of the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos confirmed on August 14 that a Chinese fishing vessel registered in Nigeria exploded and caught fire on the water at Yejela District in Lagos, the economic center of Nigeria during the night of August 13. It has been confirmed that five Chinese crew members aboard the ship were killed, while another Chinese crew member was injured.
It was learned from the Chinese ship owner during an interview on site that the explosion occurred in the power engine room of the ship. The five crew members were trying to repair the power failure there when the explosion happened, which caused a big fire and made the whole ship capsize and sink into the water soon.
