The three plaintiffs, including Mao Xueqin, are villagers of the Maozhuang Village in the Xin Cheng Administrative Office of the Huji District in Zhengzhou City. In their lawsuit, they said that there was a piece of farmland covering about 600 mu (Chinese acre) to the south of the Yuan Road and to the east of the Tianhe Road in the Huji District of Zhengzhou City, which originally belonged to the collective ownership of the Maozhuang Village, Sutun Village and other villages in the Huji District. Since 2003, this land has been illegally occupied by relevant departments but has remained idle. For this reason, since 2005, many villagers have replanted crops on this plot of land. "On July 27, 2007, eleven bulldozers rushed into our cornfields. Many villagers were also beaten up by some security guards with unclear identities," one of the injured plaintiffs told reporters. He said that regarding a series of illegal acts involving this land, the three plaintiffs made real-name reports to the Jinan Supervision Bureau, an dispatched agency of the Ministry of Land and Resources, on April 27, 2008, but have not received any response so far.
