What is street dance? The origin of street dance
Street dance, also known as HIP-HOP, originated from African American street dances. Therefore, it is sometimes called REETFUNK. Street dance has naturally gained popularity among the youth due to its relaxed, casual, free-spirited nature and rebellious attitude. After filtering out the original rowdiness and exaggeration of street dance, it has rightfully made its way into the mainstream — gyms.
HIP-HOP is a general term for various types of street dances, including mechanical dance and breakdance. It originated from the improvisational dance moves of American street dancers, who were predominantly African American or Mexican. These popular street dances mostly originated in Brooklyn, New York. Some African American or Mexican children spent their days dancing on the streets for fun, forming different factions and naturally developing unique styles in their dances.
In the early 1990s, a type of "stationary HIP-HOP" emerged. It lacked large movements and footwork transitions and did not include the gymnastics-like floor moves seen in breakdancing. Its unique style focuses on body coordination, emphasizing the rhythm of the upper body and incorporating many head and hand movements. This new style of dance can be seen in the MTVs of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and the Backstreet Boys.
In the daily training of professional aerobics athletes, HIP-HOP is often used to train coordination, expressiveness, and overall quality. It is sometimes also used for performances. In terms of external fashion expression, street dance has moderate intensity, making it possible for it to enter gyms. However, the street dance in gyms places more emphasis on safety, exercise value, health, positivity, and individual expression. Thus, practitioners can burn fat while also relieving mental stress. Personally, I believe that gym HIP-HOP plays a more prominent role in regulating the psychology of practitioners. Therefore, some people call it "the only exercise that allows you to train with a smile."
