A few days earlier in Mexico City, the sun was shining and white clouds floated in the sky. Jeff (Jonathan Tucker) and Amy (Jenna Malone), Eric (Sean Assimo) and Stacy (Laura Ramsey), two American couples were enjoying their wild vacation before starting college. Jeff was about to enter medical school, and Amy, who was somewhat timid and talkative, was worried that this would put their relationship in jeopardy; Eric and Stacy, on the other hand, had no such concerns and were fully enjoying their time of sexual bliss. During the last week of their vacation, the four, bored by the poolside, accidentally met Matthias (Joe Anderson), a German tourist.
Matthias's younger brother and his newly acquainted girlfriend had gone to a remote archaeological excavation site a few days ago and have since been out of contact. With the return flight tickets about to expire and his brother still missing, Matthias, growing increasingly anxious, decided to set off on a search mission. Driven by insatiable curiosity, the group of four, along with Greek tourist Pablo, decided to accompany Matthias on his journey.
Ignoring warnings from locals, the group quickly arrived at the so-called archaeological site – a tower-like Mayan ruin built atop a mountain peak.
