Carter Webb (played by Adam Brody) is a TV writer in California, USA. He deeply loves his girlfriend Elena Bonner (played by Aliana Anane), who is a famous star. However, due to his unsuccessful career and other reasons, the two eventually part ways. Suffering from both professional and romantic setbacks, Carter Webb lost his motivation to move forward and fell into extreme depression. In order to heal the wounds in his heart, he decided to temporarily leave the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles and return to his hometown in the suburbs of Detroit, the Motor City of Michigan, to keep his elderly grandmother (played by Olympia Dukakis) company and live a peaceful life for a while.
