After the Vietnam War, retired Vietnamese soldier Nguyen Luc (played by Chow Yun-fat) eventually ends up in Hong Kong, making a living as a hitman. During this time, he meets Lin (played by Guan Zhilin), and they become a couple. However, during one mission, Luc is ordered to kill Lin's father. Later, when Luc's superior Jian learns that Lin suspects him, he orders Luc to kill Lin to silence her. Luc takes Lin and runs away, prompting Jian to send out hitmen to pursue them. Along the way, Lin discovers that Luc was the one who killed her father, leaving her heartbroken. In order to let Lin avenge her father, Luc deliberately shoots at her so she can retaliate. As Lin fires back, Luc falls with a smile...
