Plot of Yue Guang Bao He: The movie tells the story of a fool holding a box traveling from the modern era back to the time of Chibi. Lau Ching-wai extracted concepts from "A Chinese Odyssey" and rewrote the story; the new film "Yue Guang Bao He" may once again employ his "unique martial arts" for a "time-travel" narrative. From the current list, several of the original main cast members such as "Zi Xia" Fiona Chung, "Tie Shan Gongzhu" Maggie Cheung, and "the blind man" Joseph Jiang have reunited in "Yue Guang Bao He," showing that Director Lau Ching-wai wants to give the audience another taste of "A Chinese Odyssey." Due to the film's name being only one character different from "A Chinese Odyssey," it raises suspicions about their connection. However, lead actor Nicholas Tse denies any similarity between his character and the "Great Sage" previously portrayed by Stephen Chow. Why did Lau Ching-wai choose the name "Yue Guang Bao He"? He explained that "Yue" means "time travel," and it is a completely different story from "Moonlight Box," stating, "Yue means time travel, this story is entirely different from Moonlight Box."

Although not technically a sequel to "A Chinese Odyssey," the story of this film actually originates from two treasures of Zi Xia Immortal: the Purple and Green Sword and the Moonlight Box. Fiona Chung reprises her role as Zi Xia Immortal, but she is just a supporting character. The female lead of this movie is Rose Immortal, played by Sun Li. Rose Immortal steals the Purple and Green Sword out of admiration for the love between Zi Xia and the Great Sage, hoping to find that destined love. She helps the male protagonist, bandit Qing Yisè (Nicholas Tse), obtain the Moonlight Box, leading to a crazy time-travel adventure. It can be said that these two celestial beauties connect the story of "Yue Guang Bao He." However, under the direction of the playful Lau Ching-wai, one becomes a love-struck woman, while the other becomes the "Celestial Xiang Linshao," forming a pair of "Neurotic Fairies." Apart from the Moonlight Box, "Yue Guang Bao He" has no relation to "A Chinese Odyssey" but pays tribute to director John Woo and parodies "Red Cliff." Under the relentless questioning of the media, Director Lau finally revealed some details of the plot: characters from "Kung Fu Hustle," "A Chinese Odyssey," "The Magic Hour," and "Crazy Stone" will time-travel to the Three Kingdoms era. This is a complete "East Meets West," a movie gathering many actors. Director Lau explained that "Yue" means "time travel," and the film incorporates many characters with a fresh theme.
