Plot of The Shawshank Redemption: The story is set in 1947, when banker Andy is accused of killing his wife and her lover due to her infidelity. Consequently, Andy is sentenced to life imprisonment, meaning he will spend the rest of his life in Shawshank Prison. Ellis Boyd "Red" was also sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 1927, with multiple parole attempts unsuccessful. He has become an "authority figure" in Shawshank Prison, capable of procuring almost anything you desire if you can pay: cigarettes, candy, alcohol, even marijuana. Whenever new prisoners arrived, everyone would bet on who would cry on the first night. Red believed that the frail, bookish Andy would surely cry, but Andy's silence made him lose four packs of cigarettes. However, it also made Red take a second look at Andy. For a long time, Andy did not interact with anyone. While others complained, he leisurely strolled in the yard as if he were in a park.
