Introduction to "Play It Cool":
This drama tells the growth process of members of a teenage idol group and the love stories and entanglements surrounding them. It narrates various stories experienced by an innocent young man from the countryside who accidentally becomes a member of an idol group. Through the growth journey of the male lead played by Jang Geun-seok, it reveals the ordinary side of teenage idols and the little-known pain they endure behind the glamorous stage.
The drama is written by the Hong sisters, who previously worked on "Fantasy Couple." According to Korean media reports, in the first half of this year, the Korean music scene was dominated by idol groups such as BigBang, Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls, Shinee, 2PM, and 2NE1. These teenage idol groups took turns creating one whirlwind after another in the Korean entertainment industry. In response, SBS will launch a TV series in October titled "Play It Cool," which focuses on the development of teenage idols, continuing this trend.
As the follow-up to "Swallow the Sun," "Play It Cool" uses the growth process of idol group members as its backdrop, depicting the love and challenges they experience on their path to fame. It showcases the various encounters of these dazzling stage performers in their off-stage lives. Currently, the production team is actively casting actors around 20 years old, as well as actual idol group members, to star in the series. The popular Hong sisters, known for their work on "Fantasy Couple," will once again collaborate to write the script for this drama.
Recently, South Korean television has frequently focused on the entertainment industry. Following the success of SBS's "ON AIR" last year, several hit dramas like "Lovers in Paris" and "That Fool" have emerged. This time, SBS has drawn attention by focusing on the most popular teenage idols. Whether "Play It Cool" can surpass previous works remains to be seen.
