At the end of 1949, before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xiangxi, known as "China's appendix," in the vast mountain ranges, there were still rampant bandits known as "ten thousand mountains with ten thousand troops."
Xiangxi is characterized by its crisscrossing ravines, dense rivers, undulating peaks, and continuous caves. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, banditry became rampant, especially during the Republic of China era.
