During the year of Star Calendar 9521.6, as the members of the Enterprise were retiring after their illustrious careers in interstellar space, there was a sudden move for peace from the Klingons, long considered the dregs of the galaxy. The Klingons sought to end the prolonged hostilities between them and the various interstellar satellites by requesting that the Starfleet withdraw from the neutral buffer zone. This peace initiative was most strongly opposed by Captain Kirk of the Enterprise, whose son had been killed by the Klingons, leaving him with deep-seated hatred. However, since the majority of Starfleet pursued peace, they had no choice but to accept this reality. Captain Kirk was even assigned to escort the peace envoy, Chancellor Gorkon, through the Confederation airspace to Starfleet Headquarters on Earth. As the Enterprise embarked on its final voyage to accomplish this historic mission, one night, Captain Kirk invited Chancellor Gorkon aboard for a dinner. After the meal, when Gorkon returned to his ship, Kronos One, an assassination attempt occurred. All records indicated that the torpedoes fired came from the Enterprise, leaving Captain Kirk with an unjust accusation.

The story begins in the 24th century. For a long time, the Romulan Empire has been an enemy of the United Federation of Planets. In the future, it is led by a man named Nero (Eric Bana), who carries a vendetta against both the Federation and his own people. He sends agents back in time to assassinate James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), the capable captain of the USS Enterprise and one of the Federation's greatest assets, who poses the biggest threat to the Romulans. Spock (Zachary Quinto), known for his pointed ears, learns of this plan and also travels back in time to protect his good friend, James T. Kirk. At this point, however, Kirk is just a student at Starfleet Academy. Here, the young Spock meets his older counterpart (Leonard Nimoy). The older Spock informs the younger version about Nero's plan to assassinate the young Kirk. Together, they work to protect the safety of James T. Kirk, ensuring that the history of the Federation and Starfleet is not rewritten.
