The Japanese manga "BLEACH" (originally titled in Japanese as "γγͺγΌγ"), translated in Hong Kong as "Piao Ling" and in Mainland China as "Deadman", is a work by Japanese mangaka Kubo Taito, whose real name is Kubo Nobuaki. The manga has reached 38 volumes so far, with sales reaching 50 million copies. New chapters are currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
The "Deadman" manga has now been translated into multiple versions including Chinese and English. Like many other famous series, it has also been adapted into an anime, produced by Studio Pierrot. Due to the faster pace of the anime compared to the manga, original content began airing from episode 64, followed by multiple instances of alternating original and manga-based plots. This format is quite common in long-running serialized anime.
The protagonist, Kurosaki Ichigo, is a seemingly frail but passionate teenager who can see spirits. One night, when he kicks Soul Reaper Rukia Kuchiki into the corner and she looks at him in astonishment asking, "Can you see me?", thus begins the story. From that point on, everything around Kurosaki Ichigo changes drastically. Rukia Kuchiki, who claims to be a Soul Reaper, tells Ichigo that her job is to perform soul burials and guide souls to a place called the Soul Society. With Hollows nearby, his father mysteriously injured and his sister unconscious before his eyes, Ichigo releases the exaggerated spiritual power of the Soul Reaper's Kidou. With no other choice, Ichigo receives Rukia's powers and becomes a Soul Reaper. Wearing the black Shinigami uniform, his Zanpakuto changes form due to his spiritual pressure and becomes larger. The fate of these two people tightly intertwines from this point on, leaving them with no other choice...
In this anime, the term "Soul Reaper" refers to a race capable of purifying human spirits, defying the traditional image of the Grim Reaper in people's minds.
