The story was written and produced by Hong Xi. This drama was tailor-made for Huang Biren.

The character Ah Zhi in "Thirty Years of Wind and Rain" is an innocent village girl who originally fell in love with a painter named Qi Ming. However, she was deceived by her mother into marrying into a wealthy family. Her husband, Wen Shou, suffers from a disease that causes him to self-harm frequently, making him very introverted and isolated. Yet, he falls in love with Ah Zhi at first sight. After Ah Zhi marries into the family, a series of misfortunes befall the Zhang family. The superstitious mother-in-law blames everything on Ah Zhi, believing she is a bad omen, and gradually develops resentment towards her.

Despite the scheming and entrapment by other family members, Ah Zhi remains forgiving. Gradually, she begins to see Wen Shou's good qualities and his care for her, developing feelings for him. Ah Zhi's father-in-law, Zhang Yaokun, sees the virtue of sincerity lacking in his own children through Ah Zhi, and starts to value her highly. He invites Ah Zhi to work at the company. With the nourishment of love, Wen Shou's health improves day by day. Zhang Yaokun begins to give Wen Shou important responsibilities in the company.

Wen Fu, Zhang Yaokun's eldest son, and Wen Si, his fourth daughter, feel threatened by Wen Shou and Ah Zhi. Wen Fu is openly unfriendly towards them and often leaves messes for them to clean up. Wen Si, who is cunning, skillfully slanders Ah Zhi but often ends up shooting herself in the foot, causing Zhang Yaokun to value Ah Zhi even more.
