Plot Summary of "Distant Nuodeng": Nuodeng is a remote mountain village in Yunnan that has been forgotten by history. Since Emperor Wu of Han opened up Dian, this place became a county due to its high-quality well salt production and became the starting point for salt trading on the ancient Tea Horse Road; economic prosperity brought immigrants, Confucian temples were built, and education flourished. During the Tang and Ming dynasties when many places were still in primitive conditions, Nuodeng had already become a bustling town full of merchants. Modern industrial civilization made salt easily accessible, so people no longer had to travel over mountains to find salt, leading to Nuodeng being neglected and abandoned. The passage of time gave this thousand-year-old Bai ethnic ancient village a thick layer of "patina," with the brilliance of ancient civilization hidden beneath decay and desolation, like an old man recounting past glories...
Yingzi is a Bai ethnic girl from Kunming National Teachers College Art Department. According to her student-teaching contract, she came to the remote Nuodeng after graduation to teach. She also learns that Huang Naqi is the direct descendant of a Jinshi (imperial scholar), a family renowned for its literary tradition and considered a model of Confucian scholars in central Yunnan; his father, Huang Ziqing, had countless students, choosing a life of integrity and virtue instead of seeking office, maintaining his purity like orchids; Huang Naqi's cynicism and estrangement from society are actually out of frustration with the declining moral standards, his eccentricity stems from inner distortion, and his obsession with antiquities originates from a profound pain...
