"Carousel" is a drama that explores themes of family ethics and love, similar to "Betrayal in Love," but with less emphasis on melodramatic revenge. Instead, it focuses more on the romantic narrative between the protagonists. In this series, Chang Rae-Hee teams up with newcomer Soo Ae to portray sisters who rely on each other for survival. Chang Rae-Hee showcases a softer side, moving away from her usual image as a vengeful goddess to embody a gentle femininity.
Not only did Chang Rae-Hee endure hardships in "Betrayal in Love," but also in the SBS drama "Carousel." She and Soo Ae play wealthy young women whose lives are turned upside down when their father's business fails and their mother commits suicide by jumping into a river. Suddenly left with nothing, the sisters must work part-time jobs to complete their education. Jo Eun (played by Chang Rae-Hee) has a classmate, Lee Dong-Wook, who secretly admires her. Her sister (Jo Jin) Soo Ae is also infatuated with Lee Dong-Wook. While working part-time, Jo Eun meets rich Kim Nam-Jin, and they become engaged. However, Kim Nam-Jin deserts the military, causing Jo Eun to feel uneasy about their relationship and decide to break up with him. Later, she meets Yoo Seo-Yong, whose kindness deeply touches her heart.
