Introduction to "Journey to the East" Mid-series:
"Journey to the East 2" is still written by famous screenwriter Gao Manchang, but the director has been changed to film director Hou Yong who has a grand cinematic vision. However, different from the male perspective in "Journey to the East", the TV series "Journey to the East 2" tells the story of women's journey to the East. The three Song sisters will become the central characters of the whole drama. The second sister is played by Miao Pu, and the prettiest younger sister is played by Dong Xuan. On the male side, the main actors are Pu Cunxin and Liu Peiqi.
Pu Cunxin plays an undercover party member, who appears half of the time in disguise, such as a scissors sharpener or a shoemaker. "Pu Cunxin and Li Youbin play two different roles; Li Youbin plays a rough man while Pu Cunxin plays an intellectual, completely giving two different feelings. He doesn't have the martial arts skills like Li Youbin, but he is very skilled with a gun."
Liu Peiqi plays the male second lead in the show, portraying a commoner who fights against the Japanese in his own way, leading to a tragic ending. Miao Pu and Pu Cunxin play a couple, with plenty of opposing scenes. They go through numerous hardships but ultimately fail to be together.
"Journey to the East 2" officially began filming on August 28th at the Engger Grassland in Zhalute Banner, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. Currently, the crew is busy shooting and producing in various locations including the Engger Grassland, with a shooting period of 25 days.

From its start in late August last year until now, "Journey to the East 2" has traveled through six major scenes over 144 days, finally completing all the shoots on the eve of the Spring Festival in 2009 amidst the heavy snowfall in Shenyang. The final scene was given to Dong Xuan and Yu Yang. Dong Xuan told reporters, "The first scene when we started filming was me running in the fields with my elder sister, and unexpectedly, the last scene also turned out to be mine."
The final scene was filmed at Zhang Zuolin’s former residence, the Dashufu Mansion in Shenyang, amid falling snow. It narrates the story of Dong Xuan's character, the third sister Song Tianyue, whose husband Zhou Heguang becomes the deputy director of the Shenyang Public Security Bureau and encounters disputes with Russians while selecting properties... Director Hou Yong is someone who strives for perfection, often shooting one scene multiple times. Dong Xuan, dressed in a cheongsam, shivered in the cold snow. Since the camera couldn’t capture her shoes, she wore a pair of warm snow boots, making her slightly more comfortable. Anticipating standing in the snow for a long time, Dong Xuan had previously placed heat pads on her feet to temporarily ward off the cold.
For Dong Xuan, the last artist to finish filming, she expressed that no matter how tough or exhausting it was, she endured it all. Over 144 days, there were many unforgettable stories and colleagues in the production team, meeting hardworking opponents like Miao Pu and the most charitable Pu Cunxin. However, her greatest feeling was finally being able to call her parents and grandmother to tell them she would definitely be home for the New Year. “Saying the words 'going home for the New Year' was much harder than expected. The production team encountered many unexpected situations every day. One might say these four words were more like my last line in this drama. After saying them, I realized that the 144 days had truly passed.”
