District 9 - the latest sci-fi movie in 2009

Just 30 years ago, alien beings finally had their first intimate contact with Earth. As humans nervously waited for the possible aggressive invasion or attacks, or a revolutionary progress in technology, their wishes were never fulfilled... It turned out that these aliens were the last survivors as their home planet was devastated by wars. They came to Earth not for invasion or alliance, but for refuge. After meetings among leaders of major countries around the world, they unanimously decided to set up a makeshift temporary shelter called District 9 in South Africa for these alien beings, and manage these "aliens" collectively.

However, as time passed, the patience of these alien beings who landed on Earth was gradually wearing thin. The harsh living environment made it increasingly difficult for them to suppress their anger. The task of controlling and managing aliens has been contracted by the government to a private company called "Multinational United Organization" (MNU). However, MNU is clearly not interested in the welfare and treatment of aliens. If they can master the weapon engineering that arrived on Earth with the aliens, they will reap unimaginable huge profits... But so far, every attempt by MNU has ended in failure because to activate the weapon network, alien DNA must be extracted.

The behavior of MNU has caused increasing tension between aliens and humans, which has reached a point where conflict could break out at any moment, especially when Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley), the site manager of MNU, was infected with a mysterious virus. His body underwent astonishing changes with the recombination of his DNA, making Wikus quickly become an object of worldwide pursuit because he also symbolized the most valuable key in MNU's weapon experiments - obviously, Wikus has undoubtedly become the secret key to unlocking alien weapon technology.

Being endlessly rejected and treated unfriendly by his own kind, for Wikus, there seems to be only one place in this world that can provide him with a place to stay, that is - District 9.
