It is said that on the night of the seventh day of the seventh lunar month every year, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet on the Magpie Bridge in the Milky Way. This seemingly romantic appointment of Qixi hides a sorrowful love story between a mortal and an immortal. Zhi Nu (played by Shenny Guo), who is responsible for weaving colorful clouds in the heavenly palace, accidentally drops her "cloud shuttle" to the mortal world. Afraid of being discovered by the Queen Mother of the West (played by Sylvia Leung), she sneaks down to the mortal world with Ji Que (played by Jodi Tang), who is like a sister to her, to search for the "cloud shuttle." Zhi Nu encounters Niu Lang (played by Alan Tam) in the mortal world. Niu Lang works tirelessly to remake the "cloud shuttle" for Zhi Nu, and she secretly falls in love with him. From then on, she often secretly meets Niu Lang. The Queen Mother of the West discovers this affair, and urgently summons Zhi Nu back to the heavenly court. Unwilling to give up true love, Zhi Nu chooses to abandon everything in heaven and stays in the mortal world, while Niu Lang has his memory erased by the Queen Mother.
On the other side, Ji Que, in pursuit of becoming an immortal, steals treasures from the treasury of Lord Bishan (played by Jonathan Eu), distributing them to the poor to accumulate merit. After discovering this, Lord Bishan reports Ji Que to the heavenly court, leading to enmity between them. Upon finding out that Lord Bishan is heartless, Ji Que tricks him into having a wolf's heart implanted to mock him. As a result, Lord Bishan's personality changes drastically, and he continuously persecutes Niu Lang and Zhi Nu. Realizing the trouble she has caused, Ji Que urgently seeks out the Nine-Tailed Fox to retrieve Lord Bishan's "Seven-Star Ingenious Heart." Niu Lang and Zhi Nu eventually reunite in the mortal world but face almost complete ruin due to Lord Bishan's interference. Unable to bear the suffering of Niu Lang’s family, Zhi Nu painfully returns to the heavenly palace. Witnessing this, Ji Que calls upon her companions to form a magpie bridge, allowing the two lovers to meet once a year on the Magpie Bridge.
