"Heaven, Earth, People" Plot Introduction:
When the main actors attended the press conference, Shun Oguri mentioned that he had once played the young version of Ishida Mitsunari, known as "Sakichi," in a Taiga drama back in 1996. "I never expected that after 13 years, I would have the chance to play the adult Mitsunari. It feels like destiny. Back then, I was still a child, and now playing this role again, I imagine it will feel very different." Keiko Kitagawa, who is making her debut appearance in a Taiga drama, expressed that she is actively studying history, hoping to bring a unique experience to fans of Taiga dramas.
In the past, there have been examples of an actor appearing twice in Taiga dramas; for instance, Tomokazu Miura starred in both the 2002 "Tokugawa Ieyasu & Matsuhime" and the 2006 "Crossroads of Fame." However, cases like Shun Oguri's, where an actor plays from childhood into adulthood, are not recorded in NHK's archives. Therefore, when Oguri revealed this at the press conference, the staff responsible for Taiga dramas were quite surprised. Producer Shinjiro Naito stated, "We didn't even know he had acted in one before."
Furthermore, according to Shun Oguri, his connection with Taiga dramas began during elementary school. At the age of 13, he was selected from his children's theater group to play the young "Yoshimune, the 8th Shogun." A year later, he played the young Mitsunari, whose adult counterpart was portrayed by Hiroshi Fujiwara at the time. In 2000 and 2005, he also appeared in other roles in Taiga dramas, making this his fifth association with such productions.
In fact, prior to this, "Heaven, Earth, People" had already confirmed actors such as Satoshi Tsumabuki, Takako Tokiwa, Masami Nagasawa, and Saki Amamiya. With the addition of Shun Oguri and Keiko Kitagawa, this marks the highest proportion of idol actors ever featured in a Taiga drama. The currently popular Taiga drama "Dokuganryu Masamune," starring Aoi Miyazaki, has maintained high ratings (over 20%) since its premiere, becoming a new legend in Taiga dramas. Hence, the television station has clearly put thought into selecting the cast for the 2009 Taiga drama, aiming to continue the glory of Taiga dramas with these popular actors.
