Synopsis:
When the New Fourth Army soldier Shunliu shoots at the traitor General Wu, he mistakenly hits his own commander, Chen Dali. After escaping danger, Chen Dali asks Shunliu to shoot a matchbox, and then recognizes Shunliu as a natural "sharpshooter." After drinking, he learns that Shunliu was raised on wolf's milk as a hunter's child, so he calls Shunliu brother. After changing his name to Chen Erlie, he lives up to expectations and establishes great military achievements in battles against the Japanese. Erlie becomes a legendary figure, a war hero. He rides the commander's big horse to visit his sister and the girl in his heart; for their happiness, he wants to fight more Japanese and gain more military honors.
From the perspective of a war-era commander, the story tells the tale of an ordinary little soldier who quickly grows and earns merit in real warfare. Wang Baoqiang plays "Shunliu" in the drama, a sniper who has established great military achievements in battles against the Japanese.
In battle after battle, he becomes a feared sniper by the enemy. In a mission to snipe Ishihara, in order to complete the task, he watches helplessly as his sister is raped by the Japanese soldier Saburo and commits suicide by jumping into a well... Saburo becomes his next target. At this time, the Japanese emperor announces surrender, and the Nationalist army accepts the Japanese surrender and arranges for them to return home by ship from Lianyungang. Chen Dali finds Shunliu rushing to the dock alone, extremely anxious; if Shunliu kills the Japanese soldiers, it would violate the ceasefire agreement, and Shunliu would be punished under military law. Shunliu aims his gun at Saburo and hits the urn containing Ishihara's ashes in his hands. Unexpectedly, the Nationalist army discovers Shunliu, and thousands of guns fire simultaneously, leaving Shunliu lying in a pool of blood while the Japanese soldiers pay their respects to their heroes in their hearts. Chen Dali arrives at the scene, but everything is too late; he holds Shunliu in his arms, tears streaming down his face like a fountain...
