August 22nd news: Last month, the social networking site 51.com received investment from Giant Interactive Group and has recently undergone a full redesign. The long-announced open platform has been launched, along with a sharing platform and a simplified homepage.

In May this year, 51.com announced that it would open its platform in June and become a partner of Google Open Social. However, the internal testing of 51's open platform only started quietly in July and was officially launched just recently. Meanwhile, IT Sina discovered that there are currently only 16 applications on the 51.com open platform, all developed by 51.com itself, including the newly launched apps such as "Ask" and "Secret Notebook".

Judging from the creation time of the applications, the earliest one was created on July 30th, indicating that the open platform was officially opened to users on that day. Among all the applications, the one with the highest number of users is a plugin called "Slave Farm", similar to the "Friend Buying and Selling" feature on Xiaonei (a Chinese social networking site). This plugin already has 250,000 users.

Another highlight of this redesign is the "simplified homepage". The simplified homepage has more characteristics of Facebook's personal homepage, emphasizing the applications used by users and their personal information.

Currently, there are already Xiaonei, Hai Nei, Kaixin, and other Facebook-like websites in China. To some extent, the launch of a Facebook-like personal homepage by 51.com indicates the direction of development for domestic SNS websites is still towards becoming more like Facebook.
