According to foreign media reports, the social networking site Myspace, which is under News Corporation, will release a series of original local TV programs in order to leverage the growing value of people watching TV online.
As advertisers are expected to run more TV-like ads online, many websites are releasing more online videos, and naturally Myspace is no exception. On the 19th, Myspace launched "MySpace Road Tour", where famous radio and pay-TV host Jabba tours around the United States visiting ten of the most renowned users on the Myspace website.
Myspace Vice President Rebekah Horne stated that soon a second local program will be launched alongside many other programs. They will have a show that broadcasts 24 hours a day, and television has become one of the most important channels on the website. They hope this channel will become as popular as the music channel.
According to Paul Fisher, the head of the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), the annual revenue for online display advertising reaches 411 million US dollars, with less than 10% coming from video ads. However, revenues from video ads will see significant growth over the next two years.
