On August 1, 2008, a total solar eclipse will be visible along the line from Altay in Xinjiang through Hami, Jiuquan, Xian to Zhengzhou. The obscuration of this eclipse will be 1.039 and the maximum duration of totality will be 2 minutes and 27 seconds. The northeastern part of North America, Europe and some parts of Asia will be able to see the eclipse, while the northern part of Canada, Greenland, Russia, Siberia, Mongolia and parts of China will be able to see the total solar eclipse. In China, considering the height of the sun, geography and traffic and other comprehensive factors, Jiuquan City in Gansu Province is one of the best locations for observation.
