For any SNS site, the first 10,000 users are extremely valuable. How to attract them and how to keep them active vary from one site to another. But at least one thing is common: this first batch of users is a group with significant commonalities. For example, Facebook's initial users were students from the Boston Business School and surrounding institutions, and only then gradually spread to colleges across the United States. MySpace's earliest users were underground bands and their fans, and only afterward expanded to include social networking individuals.
