DaAWN REPORT - In a residential area near the Fanchang Road Market in Hefei, a steel wire was stretched from the balcony of Room 203, Building 7, to a large tree on the grass below. Chen Jun (a pseudonym), aged 20, would descend via this wire. On the morning of September 9th, he slipped while once again attempting his "flying man" act and fell from mid-air.

Several days later, Sister Jiang saw Chen Jun "fly" down again, "He went swoosh, and he was downstairs in no time; it looked pretty cool." Sister Jiang had developed an interest in this "strange" young man and looked forward to his "performance."

After falling, he kept saying "fun"

"That's so disrespectful! You're such a big boy, yet you still fool around like this, not using the stairs but walking on the wire instead. Are you a circus performer? What have you learned at school?" Chen's mother became increasingly angry and almost wanted to hit her son.

Sister Jiang lives in Building 6 opposite, and she is Chen Jun's "loyal audience." Waiting to see Chen Jun perform his "flying man" act was Sister Jiang's most anticipated event each day, "Unfortunately, he doesn't come down the wire every day."

Grandpa Wan first saw Chen Jun descending in late July. "I was drying clothes on my balcony when I suddenly saw a shadow slide past me. I thought it was some big bird, but when I looked closely, it was a person, which really gave me a fright." She thus discovered there was a "strange young man in the neighborhood who was too lazy to even use the stairs for the second floor."

A few days later, Grandpa Wan no longer saw Chen Jun "flying" down, which relieved his uneasiness.

"It's fun. From the second floor to the first floor, it's not high, and the ground is all grass. For me, this is just a small matter!" Despite his mother's furious anger, Chen Jun remained relaxed.

Chen's mother said her son was studying at university in Nanjing and returned to Hefei in mid-July. "After starting university, he got into outdoor activities and called himself a hiker. He also bought quite a lot of equipment. We didn't notice the extra steel wire at home, and we've been too indulgent with him!"

Short in stature and slim, that was the journalist's first impression upon meeting Chen Jun. At around 10:00 that day, inside the emergency department of the Provincial Hospital, after having just finished a check-up, Chen Jun sat on a bench in the hall being scolded by his infuriated mother and couldn't lift his head.

"At noon, his family cut the wire with pliers," said Sister Jiang, a resident of the neighborhood. Indicated by Sister Jiang, the journalist picked up a piece of wire on the grass, which resembled a cable, flexible yet very resilient.
