Nanfang Daily News - Intern reporter Wang Muguang: A court bailiff in Hong Kong is suspected of sexually harassing a mildly intellectually disabled female coworker on multiple occasions at the same workplace. He was arraigned yesterday, and the prosecution indicated that they might add 4 to 5 more counts of sexual harassment against the defendant. In 2008, an officer from the Mong Kok Police Station was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually harassing four women within the same year, causing serious damage to the police's reputation.
The 51-year-old defendant, Li Guoji, is a court bailiff at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court, with over 30 years of service in the police force. His regular duty involves maintaining order in the courtroom. Given that the defendant is familiar with the female victim's residence and workplace, the prosecution opposed his bail, fearing he might harass the witness or reoffend. The defense lawyer argued that the defendant, who has a wife and two children, should not be remanded solely based on the victim’s statement, which would make him spend the New Year in custody unfairly. Ultimately, the defendant was granted bail for $25,641 (HKD 200,000) pending trial, but he is prohibited from entering the Aimin Estate where the victim lives and works, as well as the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court.
