Wang Hongjun, from Henan Province, was born on June 3, 1965. He started learning chess at the age of 11, entered a sports school at 12, and joined a training team at 14. In 1987, he was selected as an outstanding representative of industrial workers nationwide. For 16 years after joining the workforce, Wang Hongjun has been working on the front line in the welding workshop of FAW-Volkswagen. Wang Hongjun invented and made more than 40 types and over 2,000 pieces of sheet metal repair tools, extracted 123 sheet metal repair methods, created the "Wang Hongjun Sedan Sheet Metal Rapid Repair Method," and trained a high-skilled sheet metal repair team of more than 200 people. Experts unanimously believe that these rapid repair methods have significant practical value for the repair and adjustment of vehicle body surface sheet metal and are at an internationally advanced level.
Wang Hongjun graduated from FAW Technical School and joined FAW-Volkswagen in 1990, working as a sheet metal repair worker in the welding workshop. Sheet metal repair work is highly technical. Initially, the company’s sheet metal repairs were mainly handled by four German experts, with Chinese employees assisting by passing tools and doing small tasks. While assisting, Wang Hongjun practiced his skills. He visited libraries to review relevant materials, bought professional books from bookstores, and self-studied heat treatment, mechanical drawing, and metalworking knowledge, repeatedly practicing according to the textbooks. After several months of hard practice, he finally managed to repair a car.
The German experts cut the "white body" repaired by Wang Hongjun into strips, segmenting it for inspection. They also specifically went to the quality assurance department to conduct a comprehensive inspection using instruments, discovering that the steel plate thickness and structural dimensions fully met the standards. Originally, all sheet metal repair tools were imported from Germany, which were expensive, had long ordering cycles, and sometimes lacked certain varieties, making some defects impossible to repair. Wang Hongjun then thought about making his own tools, subsequently creating over 40 types and more than 2,000 pieces of repair tools such as Z-shaped hooks, T-shaped hooks, beaters, and multi-functional dent pullers, meeting the repair requirements of various models and various defects. While inventing and making tools, Wang Hongjun began summarizing quick and effective sheet metal repair methods, creating 47 items and 123 very practical and simple sedan body sheet metal repair methods known as the "Wang Hongjun Sedan Rapid Surface Repair Method."
In 2006, Wang Hongjun received the National May Day Labor Medal, and in 2007, he won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, becoming the first frontline worker in China to receive this honor. In December 2008, Wang Hongjun, who diligently studied and successfully pioneered new processes for sedan repairs, was named one of the "Top Ten Outstanding Youth of China" in the 19th edition. On March 5, 2009, Wang Hongjun was elected as a member of the 11th National People's Congress.
