Every year, many applicants who are rejected by the French embassy turn to apply for studying in Quebec. Quebec, the largest French-speaking region outside France, has 6.8 million descendants of the French. There are 15 universities in Quebec that offer courses in French, and international students mostly apply for business-related programs, accounting for 26%. This is the most favored field among international students and also one with high employment rates and salaries. The Canadian Human Resources Department has provided statistics on the eight most promising professional fields for reference:
1. New Media - Online media is the fastest-growing area in the media and journalism industry. New media programs combine traditional journalism courses with digital media design and management.
2. Bioengineering - This program integrates biology and engineering. Bioengineering programs are often supplemented by business courses. Related fields such as bioinformatics and biomedical engineering also have a good outlook.
3. Organic Agriculture - Some Canadian universities began offering organic agriculture programs in 2007.
4. Homeland Security - The Canadian Security Department offers numerous scholarships and grants for students in this major, as well as an 18-month degree-granting training course at the Homeland Security Defense Center.
5. E-Business and E-Marketing - This major focuses on commercial transactions conducted over the internet. It is usually offered at the graduate level in business schools, but some Canadian universities now provide undergraduate degrees.
6. Computer Game Design - Some colleges focus on game development while others emphasize the artistic aspects of game design.
7. Forensic Accounting - This is the fastest-growing specialty in the accounting field. Courses require students to have not only basic accounting skills but also broader business knowledge. Most schools offer undergraduate degrees, and a few offer master's degrees.
8. Human-Computer Interaction - This is generally a graduate-level course in computer science departments, but some schools have started offering undergraduate courses.
