The court ascertained after trial that, during the period from November 2010 to March 2011, the defendants Zhang Fulin, Jia Chuanxiang and 34 other individuals repeatedly stole coal transported by the Su-Huai Tugboat 488 fleet for Jiangsu Jingshen Salt Chemical Co., Ltd. The total amount of stolen coal was 1,439.79 tons, with a case value of RMB 1.1027 million.

In a report by reporter Du Xiao and correspondent Fan Zhenfeng, on February 13, Hongze County People's Court in Jiangsu Province announced the verdict for a nationwide major coal theft case led by Zhang Fulin and Jia Chuanxiang. Defendant Zhang Fulin was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined RMB 10,000 for theft. Defendant Jia Chuanxiang was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined RMB 8,000. The remaining 34 defendants were respectively sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of two to three years and fined accordingly.
