This week, Andrea K. Scott profiles the artist Cory Arcangel, whose exhibition “Pro Tools” opened at the Whitney Museum this week. Arcangel is best known for his modifications of video games — the centerpiece of the Whitney’s show is a large-scale projection of bowling games, tweaked to throw only gutter balls, which premiered at the Barbican in London this winter. Arcangel has also created a number of digital projects that exist only online, including a website that automatically updates every time someone tweets the phrase "follow my other Twitter," and a compulsively readable blog, Sorry I Haven’t Posted, that re-posts other people’s apologies for not blogging. Scott writes, "Both projects have clever conceits, but over time they become bittersweet commentaries on aspiration and failure." For more on Arcangel’s online work, read this blog post by the magazine’s cartoon editor, Robert Mankoff, which mentions Arcangel’s weekly submission to our Caption Contest.
