The worst fear for patients is to buy counterfeit medicine, especially for some ED patients who feel embarrassed to seek treatment at hospitals and often purchase so-called "Viagra" from small street pharmacies and health product stores on their own, frequently falling victim to fake drugs. In order to help patients better identify the authenticity of medicines, Pfizer launched a new color-changing anti-counterfeiting mark for Viagra on the occasion of the 3.15 Consumer Rights Protection Day. This year, globally, the new mark will gradually replace the original laser anti-counterfeiting mark on Viagra. The new mark is a "blue/copper" color-changing mark that uses advanced high-tech color gradient technology, which is more advanced than laser anti-counterfeiting technology. The new color-changing anti-counterfeiting mark for Viagra is adopted globally by Pfizer and produced by a unique global manufacturer using high-tech color gradient technology. It is located in the lower right corner of the English side of the Viagra packaging box, replacing the original laser anti-counterfeiting mark. When viewed straight on, the "Pfizer" font inside the mark appears blue, and when viewed at an angle, the "Pfizer" font changes to copper (some people think it's purple), known as the "blue/copper" color-changing mark. The new color-changing anti-counterfeiting mark will be applied to the 100mgX1 pack and 100mgX5 pack of Viagra, and products with laser marks will no longer be available in the future. Meanwhile, to make it easier for buyers to identify genuine Viagra using the new color-changing anti-counterfeiting mark, Pfizer has introduced a matching genuine and counterfeit identification card, which will soon be launched in the Chinese market. Due to terminal and distributor inventory, in the near term, both the laser mark and the new color-changing anti-counterfeiting mark may coexist on the 100mgX1 pack and 100mgX5 pack of Viagra sold in hospitals and pharmacies. Currently, the 50mgX1 pack still carries the laser anti-counterfeiting mark until its stock is sold out. Regardless of the packaging, any Viagra purchased from legitimate pharmacies and hospitals is guaranteed to be genuine.

"The application of high-tech anti-counterfeiting marks for Viagra is very timely and can help people easily identify and purchase genuine Viagra," said Professor Zhu Jichuan, Chairman of the Andrology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Chief of Urology at Peking University People's Hospital. "Viagra is a breakthrough oral treatment drug that effectively improves male erectile function. Since entering the Chinese market in 2000, it has been widely recognized by doctors, pharmacists, and consumers and is regarded as a milestone and gold standard in ED treatment. Precisely because of Viagra's excellent clinical efficacy and brand image, it has become a target for illegal counterfeiters."

Professor Zhu emphasized that taking counterfeit Viagra is undoubtedly gambling with one's health and life since no one knows what the fake drug components are, whether they are harmful to health, or what the consequences of taking them might be. Obtaining Viagra through non-official channels is not worth the risk; only through legitimate pharmacies and hospital channels can genuine Viagra be obtained.

According to data published by the National Food and Drug Administration, in 2006, a total of 332,000 cases of various types of pharmaceutical and medical device violations were investigated nationwide, involving a total value of 570 million yuan. "Counterfeit drugs are one of the most harmful fake behaviors, seriously endangering people's lives, health, and safety, and are one of the least harmonious factors in a harmonious society," said Director Wang Qianhu of the China Consumers Association. "The theme of this year's 3.15 is 'Harmonious Consumption.' Improving the anti-counterfeiting technology of drugs and widely promoting methods to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit drugs allows ordinary people to buy drugs with confidence and use them safely, helping to create a 'harmonious consumption' market environment."
