Last year, the city's Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau inspected a total of 16,568 batches of exported garments, amounting to 44.858 million pieces/suits (tons), valued at 5.19794 billion USD. Compared with the same period in 2010 for garment exports in Huzhou area, there was a noticeable decline in export volume, but the export value remained largely stable, indicating an increase in the unit price of exported garments and a significant improvement in quality compared to the past.
In Huzhou City's export products, garments have always been a major category. In previous years, garment exports accounted for about 10% of the total export amount annually, making up one-third of legally inspected products. However, starting last year, Huzhou's garment exports began showing a trend of reduced volume but stable prices, with many garment exporters reducing their order intake and beginning to produce mid-to-high-end garments.
It is reported that due to the current unoptimistic situation regarding textile and garment exports in Huzhou, many larger-scale foreign trade garment enterprises have started transforming their businesses by enhancing product quality and seeking new markets and customers.
