Henan Business Daily reporter Liu Yao, with correspondents Hai Ming, Ding Mei and Jian Liang: An adulterous wife, in an attempt to shirk responsibility, told her husband that she had been raped.
This lie plunged two families into the abyss: the husband, unable to bear the shame and anger, killed the "rapist."
Yesterday, the Intermediate People's Court of Zhengzhou sentenced the husband to life imprisonment for intentional injury.
Having been discovered in an extramarital affair, she told her husband that she had been raped.
In October 2009, after a male driver died following an argument over toll fees with toll booth staff, Xiao Rong and her husband Chang Jin came to Zhengzhou to work. Xiao Rong worked as a waitress at a hotel on Chengdong Road. Not long after, she developed an intimate relationship with Yong Chao, a married man who also worked at the hotel.
Yong Chao was deeply infatuated with her and often couldn't resist sending her late-night messages filled with affectionate words and suggestive language.
On the Lantern Festival of 2010, Chang Jin discovered the messages on his wife's phone. Enraged, he slapped Xiao Rong across the face and demanded to know what was going on. Fearing the situation, in order to absolve herself of responsibility, she told her husband that she had been raped by Yong Chao.
Upon hearing this from his wife, Chang Jin was consumed with rage. That same day, he found the hotel where his wife worked, slapped Yong Chao several times, and warned him not to harass Xiao Rong anymore. Yong Chao promised to stop sending messages to Xiao Rong.
Two months passed, but the anger remained, leading the husband to wield a knife and kill the "rapist."
Chang Jin was incensed by Yong Chao's "evil deeds," yet, fearing disgrace, he never reported the matter to the police. However, the incident continued to haunt his thoughts, tormenting him relentlessly.
More than two months had passed, but Chang Jin's hatred for Yong Chao only grew stronger. Finally, he decided to "teach" Yong Chao a lesson, telling his wife, "This can't be left unresolved; I must vent this anger!"
At around 6 PM on May 16, 2010, Chang Jin purchased a kitchen knife from a hardware store near the Zheng-Bian Road area. At 10:30 PM, he went to Yong Chao's residence on Dong Street to wait. Around 1 AM, when he saw Yong Chao walking with a woman, Chang Jin hid across the street. Once Yong Chao had distanced himself by about three or four meters from the woman, Chang Jin rushed forward, pulled out the pre-prepared knife, and slashed Yong Chao’s shoulder and back.
The woman accompanying Yong Chao, upon seeing this, thought they were being robbed and screamed loudly, "Robbery!" Hearing the screams, Chang Jin became frightened, dropped the knife, and fled in panic.
With the help of the woman, Yong Chao walked to the hospital for treatment but eventually died due to hemorrhagic shock.
Betrayal and lies pushed both families into the abyss.
After returning home, Chang Jin told Xiao Rong that he had "taken care of" Yong Chao. Seeing the bloodstains on her husband's body, Xiao Rong collapsed to the ground. The next afternoon, Chang Jin, who had fled back to his hometown of Xin Cai County, was apprehended by the police.
In court, Chang Jin expressed deep regret for his crimes, and after the trial, Xiao Rong cried out, begging Chang Jin to forgive her.
After reviewing the case, the court determined that defendant Chang Jin intentionally inflicted harm on another person's body, resulting in death, constituting the crime of intentional injury. Yesterday, the Intermediate People's Court of Zhengzhou legally sentenced Chang Jin to life imprisonment, deprivation of political rights for life, and ordered him to compensate more than 90,000 yuan to the close relatives of Yong Chao (all names are pseudonyms).
